First of all, there is STILL ice on the lake....we'll be getting some 20+ temperatures this week, but up until now it's been either raining or snowing almost every day! There have been no fires in Red Lake yet this year but last year our fire season didn't really get going until July 2nd, so we still have a bit of time before we're expecting they'll start!
Since my last post, I've gotten my new crew for the summer and they are all great! I have two rookies on my crew this year, so until he end of the month we are on a 5 person crew. Lately, we've been out training pretty much daily...it's nice to help teach the new people this year instead of being the rookie!
Everything is great at the bunks, it sure is nice having Josh with me this year. He got signed off to drive the MNR trucks today which will be good experience for him since he's just been driving the civic so far this summer! He is also on a really experienced crew leader's crew with another girl from North Bay and a guy (also his roommate) who goes to Nipissing University! North Bay is well represented here this summer!
At work we've started our normal summer schedules, which are from 10:30am-7:00pm each day.....good for those of us who are not morning people haha
I have Thursday & Friday off this week and am planning on driving to Kenora to get out of Red Lake for a day. Other than that, there is not much going on here. I hope everyone is having a great May so far, i'll be sure to keep ya updated when more starts to happen here!
Here is me in front of the bunkhouse entrance sign two weeks ago!
